Township Assistance

The Township Trustee is here to help the residents of Richland in times of crisis. The Township does not provide any long-term support or relief, but if you have a sudden, unavoidable problem, we may be able to help.

Township residents may come to the Township office to pick up an application for Township Assistance or print the application from our website. Once the application is completed and you have all the required documents, you will need to call the Township office at 812-876-2000 or email Bobbie at rttinv@bluemarble.net to schedule an appointment to determine eligibility for assistance.  Please bring the application and all the required documents with you to the interview.

All adults (anyone 18 years or older) in the household must be present for the interview or the application will not be accepted.  The Township does not provide same day appointments or assistance.

If you have any questions regarding township assistance, please contact the township office and speak with Bobbie.

Who can get assistance?

A person or family of Richland Township that is in need of assistance if there is not enough income or resources to provide the basic necessities of life such as food, shelter, utilities, and medical needs.

What type of assistance we offer?

We help with rent, mortgage, utilities (electric, water, natural gas, propane), burials, cremations, clothing, insulin, dental, medical, and transportation.

Township Assistance applications are reviewed according to the uniform written standards without consideration of race, creed, nationality, or gender of the applicant or household members.

Township Trustees prepare written assistance guidelines, using the standards as defined by statute Indiana Code 12-20-5.5-2.
